To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the cost in 1996–97 and a full year of reducing the qualifying period for full relief under profit sharing schemes and savings-related share options schemes from five to three years. [40782]

[holding answer 31 October 1995]: The cost in 1996–97 of reducing the qualifying period for full tax relief under profit sharing schemes and introducing an optional three-year contract period for savings-related share option schemes is estimated at £15 million. The estimated full-year cost is £25 million.
