How many persons were employed at 4 July 1995 in

  1. (a) Department of Employment,
  2. (b) Department of Education and Science,
  3. (c) Department of Trade and Industry, and
  4. (d) Department of Social Security.

The latest available figures are for 1 April 1995. The Department of Education and Science was replaced by the Department for Education on 6 July 1992. The numbers of full-time equivalent staff employed on 1 April 1995 were:

(a) Department of Employment Group 49,567
(b) Department for Education 2,025
(c) Department of Trade and Industry 10,247
(d) Department of Social Security 89,248
