Ms Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what steps were taken by his Department to encourage young people from the United Kingdom to take part in the European Youth Parliament for the Environment which met in Strasbourg on 9 and 10 October; [41483]

(2) on what basis representatives from the United Kingdom were selected to take part in the European Youth Parliament for the Environment which met in Strasbourg on 9 and 10 October; and what support was provided by his Department to them. [41484]

Mr. Clappison

[holding answer 6 November 1995]: The Department of the Environment has no record of an approach for assistance from an organisation or event known as the European Youth Parliament for the Environment. It follows that the Department was neither involved in the selection of participants nor in supporting them in Strasbourg on the 9 and 10 October.
