Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the rules and regulations he proposes to repeal or amend by means of a reference to the Deregulation Committee before the end of 1995; and if he will make a statement. [41544]

Mr. Howard

[holding answer 6 November 1995]: I refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster on 6 November, Official Report, column 576.

Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what regulations his Department proposes to repeal by the end of 1995; if he proposes to conduct a compliance cost assessment on each regulation repealed; and what is the estimated cost of undertaking a compliance cost assessment to assess the advantages or disadvantages of such a repeal. [41561]

Mr. Howard

[holding answer 6 November 1995]: I hope on present plans that by the end of 1995 the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 will be amended to relax the rules on greyhound racing. The cost savings likely to accrue to the greyhound industry have been estimated at £260,000 per annum. It is not possible to estimate the cost of making this assessment.
