HC Deb 08 November 1995 vol 265 c894W
Mrs. Roche

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will list for each parliamentary constituency(a) how many businesses there are employing (i) between 0 to nine people, (ii) between 10 to 49 people, (iii) between 50 to 99 people and (iv) between 100 to 499, (b) how many business start-ups there have been in each of the last 16 years and (c) how many deregistrations there have been in each of the last 16 years. [42267]

Mr. Page

Figures for parliamentary constituencies are not available.

Numbers of VAT-registered businesses, new registrations and deregistrations by local authority district are published in "VAT County and District Estimates 1980–91" and "VAT County and District estimates 1992–93", copies of which are available in the Library of the House.

Mrs. Roche

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the total number of business start-ups in each of the last 12 months. [42006]

Mr. Page

[holding answer 7 November 1995]: There are no official figures on the number of business start-ups each month. Estimates from Barclays and NatWest suggest around 400,000 businesses started up in the 12 months ending June 1995.
