The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the target efficiency savings from the year 1992–93 to 1995–96 in each of Her Majesty's prisons within the United Kingdom; and the actual savings in spending from 1992–93 to 1994–95.For England and Wales as a whole current expenditure costs per prisoner place reduced in real terms by 2.1 percent between 1992–93 and 1994–95, equivalent to £27 million. Details relating to individual prisons are not readily available.
