HC Deb 07 November 1995 vol 265 c754W
Sir Irvine Patnick

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what are the proposed completion dates for current construction work on the M1; and what is his latest information on whether the dates will be met. [40980]

Mr. Watts

This is an operational matter for the Highways Agency. I have asked the chief executive to write to my hon. Friend.

Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Sir Irvine Patnick, dated 6 November 1995: As you know, the Minister for Railways and Roads, Mr. John Watts, has asked me to reply to your Parliamentary Question asking the Secretary of State for Transport, what are the proposed completion dates for current construction work on the M1; and what is his latest information on whether the dates will be met. The contract for the widening M1 between junctions 21 and 21A is due to end in February 1996 but we are currently considering an extension to late March because of unforseen ground conditions. If that extension is granted, we have no reason to thin that the revised date will not be met.

Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals he has to widen the M1 from junctions 23 to 28. [41001]

Mr. Watts

This is an operational matter for the Highways Agency. I have asked the chief executive to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Mr. Graham Allen, dated 6 November 1995: As you know, the Minister for Railways and Roads, Mr John Watts, has asked me to reply to your Parliamentary Question, asking the Secretary of State for Transport, what proposals he has to widen the M1 between Junctions 23 and 28. The road programme contains two schemes covering this section of the M1. A preferred option for widening between Junctions 23A and 25 to dual 4 lanes was announced in March 1995. Proposals for widening the motorway to dual 4 lanes between Junctions 25 and 28 were put to the public in July 1994. We are considering the responses received.
