HC Deb 07 November 1995 vol 265 c777W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his policy towards re-establishing an international marine safety corps to inspect vessels globally. [41595]

Mr. Norris

The original international marine safety corps was set up in 1978 primarily to provide expert advice to developing countries in the formulation of regulations and survey procedure.

International co-operation in maritime safety has now advanced to a point where re-establishment of such a corps would no longer be appropriate or necessary.
