HC Deb 07 November 1995 vol 265 c776W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the numbers and categories of Mayday aircraft for Heathrow airport for the last 10 years. [42114]

Mr. Norris

The Mayday call is used where there is a serious and/or imminent danger and immediate assistance is required.

Mayday calls are normally made to air traffic control centres rather than to airport. Monday calls made by aircraft bound for Heathrow airport for the last 10 years are as follows:

Years Mayday calls
1985 to 1989 inclusive 0
1990 2
1991 0
1992 0
1993 1
1994 1
1995 1
