To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many people have died or been injured by accidents due to a fault in gas-powered domestic water heaters in each of the past four years. [41668]

The estimated numbers of people receiving treatment at accident and emergency units in the United Kingdom, for injuries from faults in gas-powered water heaters, are presented in the table. The corresponding numbers for fatalities in England and Wales are also given. However the figure for 1993, normally provided by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys, is not available.
