HC Deb 07 November 1995 vol 265 c787W
Mr. Robert McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will commence recording as a separate statistic the number of medical terminations of pregnancy carried out in the Northern Ireland health service; and for what reasons they are not so recorded. [42083]

Mr. Moss

The number of medical terminations of pregnancy carried out in the Northern Ireland health service is not collected as a separate statistic. The Abortion Act 1967 does not apply in Northern Ireland and thus there is at present no legal obligation for doing so.
