Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 30 October,Official Report, columns 101–2, if he will list the procedures for merging trusts or amending their area of coverage; what consultations he has had with the chairmen of the trusts in Wales in relation to mergers and takeovers and if he will make a statement. [41843]

Mr. Hague

Applications from trusts significantly to alter their configuration are subject to public consultation in the normal way. If an application is approved, the existing trust(s) would be dissolved and immediately re-established in line with the approval. I have had no consultations with trust chairmen on this issue.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 30 October,Official Report, columns 101–2, if he will list those mixed function trusts which are deemed to cover a different geographical area for different functions. [41841]

Mr. Hague

Trusts are not confined to particular geographical areas for the services they offer. Currently those mixed function trusts which are deemed to cover a different geographical area for different functions are:

  • Llandough Hospital and Community NHS trust Rhondda Healthcare NHS trust
  • Bridgend and District NHS trust
  • Glan-y-Mor NHS trust
  • Cardiff Community Healthcare NHS trust Gwent Community Health NHS trust.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 30 October,Official Report, columns 101–2, if he will list for each trust the total money turnover figure estimated for the present financial year and, for those trusts with more than one category at health care provision, the financial turnover in each category. To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 30 October,Official Report, columns 101–2, what representations he has received in relation to trusts taking over directly managed units; and what consultations he has had with Welsh Association Health Authorities and Trusts in relation to collusion by trusts interested in taking over directly managed units. [41844]

Mr. Hague

Three months' public consultation on applications from Bridgend and District NHS trust and Glan Hafren NHS trust to merge with the Hensol health unit and the Rhymney Valley health unit respectively commenced on 25 September 1995. To date, nine representations have been received. WAHAT has been consulted but has not responded to date.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 30 October,Official Report, columns 101–2, if he will list the principal differences between the trusts he has listed as providing community services, either on their own or in combination with acute, and those trusts he has listed as offering community services in combination with mental health services. [41842]

Mr. Hague

Apart from the range of services provided, there is no fundamental difference in the way which trusts are established or managed.
