Mr. Milburn

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list all mergers that have taken place between trusts, indicating the reason given for each merger. [41428]

Mr. Malone

Mergers have taken place between the following national health service trusts:

  • Guy's Hospital (formerly part of Guy's and Lewisham NHS Trust) with St. Thomas's Hospital NHS trust;
  • Harrow Community Health Services NHS trust with Hillingdon Community Health NHS trust;
  • Homewood NHS trust with Weybourne Community NHS trust;
  • Royal Liverpool University Hospital NHS trust with Broadgreen Hospital NHS trust;
  • West Dorset Community Health NHS trust with West Dorset Mental Health NHS trust;
  • Wolverley NHS trust with North Warwickshire NHS trust.

The main reason for any trust merger is to improve patient care. Further information on the reasons for the above trust mergers may be obtained from the individual trusts.
