To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease have been reported in Wales and if he will make a statement. [41248]

Since May 1990, details of suspected cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in the United Kingdom have been reported to the national CJD surveillance unit in Edinburgh. Suspected cases are classified as definite, probable or possible. During the period May 1990 to October 1995, there were 15 definite, one probable and five possible cases of CJD from Wales.
