§ Mr. Don FosterTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 27 October,Official Report, columns 845–6, what plans he has to collate information about the number of children in classes in Wales. [41286]
§ Mr. Richards[holding answer 3 November 1995]: The annual schools census collects information from primary schools on the number of registered classes by size of class, but not on the precise number of pupils in those classes. Such information is sufficient to monitor trends in the number of larger classes in primary schools and I have no plans at present to collect further information. The census results are published in table 3.06 of "Statistics of Training and Education in Wales: Schools" No. 3 1995, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. From these results, broad estimates can be made of the number of pupils in each class size.
