To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what has been the cost of ministerial transport in each of the past five years; what allowance has been paid to ministers who use their own vehicles; and what has been the cost in each of the past five years. [40743]

The cost of ministerial transport in each of the past five years has been:

  • 1995–96: £125,000 (First 6 months of current financial year)
  • 1994–95: £288,000
  • 1993–94: £286,000
  • 1992–93: £280,000
  • 1991–92:£219,000
  • 1990–91: £186,000

Motor mileage allowance has been paid to Ministers who use their own vehicles. The cost in the current and previous two financial years is as follows. Information before that is not available.
