HC Deb 03 November 1995 vol 265 c504W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the number of employment changes each year to parents of children eligible to child benefit. [41139]

Mrs. Angela Knight

The latest available estimates from the labour force survey show that in spring 1994 there were 9.3 million parents in Great Britain who were eligible to claim child benefit—with a child aged zero to 15 or 18 or under full-time education. Among those in this group who were in employment in both spring 1993 and spring 1994, 757,000 changed their employment at least once during the intervening period.
