HC Deb 03 November 1995 vol 265 c510W
Mr. George Howarth

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the planned regimes for the proposed boot camps. [40639]

Miss Widdecombe

On 18 September, my right hon. and learned Friend announced details of the new high intensity training regime to be introduced next June at Thorn Cross young offender institution. The regime will have discipline and hard work as its foundation and the emphasis will be on personal responsibility underlined throughout by very strict standards of behaviour. A typical day will begin at 6 am sharp with drill followed by an intensive schedule of training, education, work and other physical activity. The day will end with lights out at 10 pm.

Discussions are taking place between officials from the Prison Service and Ministry of Defence about the possibility of establishing a young offender institution at the military corrective training centre at Colchester.
