To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department at what stage in the process of the contracting out of services relating to the Court Service it is required under schedule 16 to the Deregulation and Contracting Oct Act 1995 that the senior judiciary be consulted; on what occasions such consultations have taken place; and in respect of which services. The question concerns a specific operational matter on which the chief executive of the Court Service is best placed to provide an answer and I have accordingly asked him to reply direct.

Letter from M. D. Huebner to Mr. Paul Boateng, dated 2 November 1995: The Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department has asked me to reply to your Question about the judicial consultation required under the above Act when contracting out services.

The Lord Chancellor is required to consult the senior judges before making an order under the provisions of Schedule 16 to the Deregulation and Contracting Out Act 1995. No such consultations have yet taken place.
