HC Deb 01 November 1995 vol 265 cc342-3W
Ms Mowlam

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what assistance he will give the European Commissioner for the Environment and Nuclear Safety, Ms Ritt Bjerregard, in her investigation into allegations that nuclear waste was dumped in the seas off the Irish and Scottish coasts in 1981 by the British Government. [39626]

Mr. Moss

There is no nuclear industry in Northern Ireland, and no radioactive waste from Northern Ireland has been dumped into the seas off the Irish and Scottish coasts at any time under an authorisation from the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. There is, therefore, no assistance which could be afforded to the European Commissioner.
