The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question asking how many people were serving a sentence of imprisonment for the non-payment of their council tax as at 10 October.The latest available information is for 30 September 1995. On that date there were no prisoners in Prison Service establishments in England and Wales for non-payment of council tax.
