To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many people in(a) London and (b) the rest of the country have exercised their right to buy their council house since the right was introduced. [25528]

Between October 1980 and September 1994 some 185,000 council homes in London were purchased by tenants under the right-to-buy legislation. During the same period, about 1,025,000 sales were made to local authority and new town tenants in the rest of England.
