Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list those countries in which the Overseas Development Administration has funded family planning initiatives together with the number of projects, their nature and the amount spent in each case for the last year for which figures are available. [25305]

Mr. Baldry

[holding answer 22 May 1995]The table lists the countries in which ODA supported reproductive health projects in 1994 through the bilateral aid programme, together with the number of such projects, where expenditure exceeded £50,000 per project, and the total amount spent for each country. These projects aim to enable men and women to have better access to family planning; enable women to experience safer motherhood and childbirth; and to improve sexual health. In addition, ODA contributed £19,435,000 in 1994 to the United Nations Population Fund, the International Planned Parenthood Federation and special programmes of the World Health Organisation for population and reproductive health work.
