§ Mr. CabornTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will ask the European Commission to bring forward proposals for the provision of the general system of preferences to agricultural produce from South Africa. [25611]
§ Mr. Needham[holding answer 23 May 1995]From 1 January 1995, South Africa was granted GSP benefits for a limited range of agricultural products. The European Commission is committed, under the terms of the current GSP regulation for agricultural products, to bring forward a proposal to re-examine the scope of those benefits to enable the Council to take a decision to enter into force on 1 July 1995. Her Majesty's Government take the view that South Africa should have access to the full range of agricultural concessions available under the scheme.
