HC Deb 23 May 1995 vol 260 cc577-8W
Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the guidance he has issued to Scottish health boards concerning the issuing of private medical prescriptions to patients where the costs of obtaining the medication on an NHS prescription are greater than those in buying the medication through a private prescription. [25330]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

No such guidance has been issued to Scottish health boards.

Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many prescriptions were issued by general practitioners in each health board in Scotland in each year since 1979–80. [25351]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The information for each health board for the financial years 1979–80 to 1993–94 is set out in the tables. The figures include prescriptions written by general medical practitioners and dentists, as well as hospital-generated prescriptions from England and prescriptions written for personnel serving in the armed forces.
