HC Deb 23 May 1995 vol 260 c569W
Mr. Wilshire

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if permission was granted by the Civil Aviation Authority for British Airways to transport munitions from Hong Kong to London on 4 April. [25571]

Mr. Norris

I understand that British Airways was granted permission by the Civil Aviation Authority to carry munitions of war from Hong Kong on 4 April.

Mr. Wilshire

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what controls exist to regulate the transport of weapons and ammunition as cargo on scheduled civil air services. [25568]

Mr. Norris

Article 46 of the Air Navigation Order 1989—Article 51 of the 1995 order—sets out the conditions under which weapons and munitions of war can be carried on civil aircraft. The Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 1994 set out the conditions under which dangerous goods, including ammunition, can be carried on civil aircraft.
