HC Deb 23 May 1995 vol 260 c553W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his policy concerning treatment for infertility. [25162]

Mr. Richards

The NHS in Wales provides a wide range of services for the investigation and treatment of infertility. It is for individual health authorities to determine the extent and type of services in the light of local needs and priorities.

The Welsh Office has provided guidance in the protocol, "Investment in Health Gain for Health Living", and has drawn attention to the advice contained in "The Effective Health Care Bulletin on the Management of Subfertility", published for the NHS management executive by a consortium of Leeds and York universities and the research unit of the Royal College of Physicians, and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists publication "Infertility—Guidelines for Practice". Copies of these documents are available in the Library of the House.
