Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what parliamentary facilities are available to a Solicitor-General for Scotland who is not a member of either House of Parliament; if a holder of this position in such circumstances benefits from the use of a ministerial car; what is his annual salary; how it relates to ministerial salaries, how it is voted by each House; and if he will make a statement. Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The privileges accorded to the Solicitor-General for Scotland, when not a member of the House of Commons, are as follows:

  1. (a) Access to the Members' Lobby
  2. (b) Admission to a seat under the Gallery
  3. (c) Access to:
    1. (i) The Strangers Dining Room
    2. (ii) The Churchill Room
    3. (iii) The Strangers' Bar;

A holder of this position has the use of a ministerial car shared with the Lord Advocate.

The salary of the Solicitor-General for Scotland with effect from 1 January 1995 is £47,697. It is a ministerial salary which is voted as part of the total expenditure of the Crown Office, Procurator Fiscal Service and Lord Advocate's Department.
