HC Deb 22 May 1995 vol 260 c459W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what advances his anti-smoking campaigns have achieved; and if he will make a statement on specific results achieved. [25160]

Mr. Richards

In Wales there has been an encouraging decrease in the level of smoking prevalence in recent years. Studies carried out by the Health Promotion Authority for Wales show that the percentage of men aged 18 to 64 smoking daily has fallen from 35 per cent, in 1985 to 27 per cent. in 1993. The equivalent change for women of the same age group was from 30 to 25 per cent.
