HC Deb 22 May 1995 vol 260 c423W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to encourage British industries to develop end products for recycled materials. [25023]

Mr. Page

Identifying end markets for recycled materials has been an important feature in the Government's "producer responsibility" dialogue with a range of industrial sectors. Industry recognises the crucial need for demand to be developed ahead of collection. The Government, for their part, have taken a number of steps to stimulate demand, providing support for R and D projects investigating new uses for recovered materials, including glass, rubber and plastics, and arranging for UK standards to be examined with a view to removing unnecessary discrimination against the use of recycled materials.
