HC Deb 22 May 1995 vol 260 cc457-8W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement concerning nurses' pay in Wales. [24336]

Mr. Richards

The independent pay review body has recommended a 1 per cent. increase in national salaries to be supplemented by local negotiations on pay which are expected to lead to improvements in total of between 1.5 and 3 per cent. These recommendations have been accepted in full by the Government.

Some 13 trusts and units in Wales have made offers known—all at the 3 per cent. mark. The remainder are expected to make offers soon.

Negotiations are still continuing between the management and staff sides of the Nursing and Midwifery Staffs Council to translate the pay review body recommendations into an agreement for promulgation to the service.
