HC Deb 22 May 1995 vol 260 c466W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent discussions he has had with the Governor of the Bank of England regarding long-term investment in British industry. [25021]

Mr. Nelson

My right hon. and learned Friend and I meet regularly with the Governor to discuss the prospects for inflation and the current state of the economy, including long-term investment in British industry. Recent figures for investment show some very encouraging signs. For example, in the fourth quarter of 1994, manufacturing investment in plant and machinery was over 10 per cent, up on a year earlier.
