HC Deb 16 May 1995 vol 260 c202W
Mr. Davidson

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has to distribute the EC wine lake. [24498]

Mr. Jack

Responsibility for management of the EU wine regime rests with the European Commission. Surplus wine is distilled into alcohol. The United Kingdom Government support the Commission in its efforts to dispose of wine alcohol stocks at the best price available; sales are mainly to third countries for use in the fuel sector. The UK also supports the European Commission's aim to reform the EU wine regime so as to bring production into line with demand.
