To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what has been the expenditure per(a) primary school and (b) primary school pupil in real and constant price terms in each year since 1979. [23382]

The information requested in respect of primary and secondary school pupils is set out in the table for years 1979–80 to 1992–93, which is the latest year for which details are available:

Capital grants paid by the Department of Education in respect of approved capital expenditure incurred by voluntary schools and grant-maintained integrated schools since 1984–85 are set out. Information in the form requested for the years 1979–80 to 1983–84 is not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
