HC Deb 16 May 1995 vol 260 c199W
Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what checks have been made on the length of time calves are waiting in transporters at Baginton airport prior to being flown to Europe and on the implications for the maximum journey time limit without food and water. [23361]

Mrs. Browning

Arrangements have been made to check consignments of calves awaiting flights from Coventry airport to ensure that their welfare needs are being met. In circumstances where there is the possibility that the 15-hour rule could be breached because of delayed flights, officials have powers to intervene to prevent the journey continuing, and to order the calves to be returned to their premises of origin so as to arrive within 15 hours of the time their journey started.
