HC Deb 15 May 1995 vol 260 c3W
Mr. Keen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the adequacy of current arrangements for co-ordinating road works and other road openings in London; and what plans he has to review the situation. [23951]

Mr. Norris

Under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 co-ordination on publicly maintained local roads is the responsibility of the local highway authority, while for trunk roads the responsibility rests with the Highways Agency. A code of practice issued under the Act gives practical guidance on the co-ordination of street works and works for road purposes and related matters; we are currently reviewing this and the other codes of practice and regulations governing street works in the light of responses received following a public consultation.
