HC Deb 15 May 1995 vol 260 c31W
Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when permission was granted for the operation of a hatchery at Killylough lough, Maghera, County Londonderry; what is the consent discharge number or reference number for this project; and what public notification or consultation took place prior to authorisation for the Killylough lough hatchery, Maghera, County Londonberry, being given. [23306]

Mr. Ancram

There is no fish hatchery of this name and neither has permission been granted for the operation of one at this location. A small unauthorised hatchery was detected and closed in January 1989. In anticipation of an authorised fish hatchery development a consent, No. 89/90, to the discharge of effluent was issued by the Department of the Environment under the terms of the Water Act (Northern Ireland) 1972. The application was not pursued and, as no authorisation was issued for the operation of a hatchery, public notification and consultation procedures were not instigated.

Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if employees of the Fisheries Conservancy Board are required to register an interest when a close relative operates a hatchery or fish farm within or outside the jurisdiction of the Fisheries Conservancy Board for Northern Ireland. [23305]
