HC Deb 11 May 1995 vol 259 c606W
19. Ms Lynne

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the cost of funding the current teachers' pay award; and what increase in the standard rate of income tax is required to raise this sum. [22245]

Mr. Aitken

The cost in England and Wales of the pay award recommended by the school teachers' pay review body is about £294 million. The estimated full year effect, at 1995–96 income levels, of a 1p change in the basic rate of income tax is £1.9 billion.
