§ Mr. Oppenheim[holding answer 10 May 1995]: The European directive on the use of personal protective equipment at work does not permit such an exemption. During the negotiations on this directive, the UK pressed for a derogation which would have allowed an exemption to be granted, but was unsuccessful.
