HC Deb 11 May 1995 vol 259 cc599-600W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Education if she will list the available information by which hon. Members are able to examine the financial viability of colleges in their constituencies. [22679]

Mr. Boswell

Under the financial memorandum between colleges and the Further Education Funding Council, colleges are required to keep proper accounts and accounting records, and to prepare a statement of accounts in respect of each financial year. Colleges are required to make reasonable arrangements to make copies of the accounts publicly available.

Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Education to what extent colleges are penalised in their funding via the Further Education Funding Council if the institution fails to meet her growth targets. [22683]

Mr. Boswell

Details of the allocation of funding to colleges are matters for the Further Education Funding Council. I am therefore asking the council's chief executive to write to the hon. Member.
