Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

The Government do not intend to provide any submission to the 1996 intergovernmental conference on any of the articles or associated protocols relating to economic and monetary union, which are contained in the treaty on European Union, as agreed at Maastricht.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer which countries currently fulfil the Maastricht conditions for economic and monetary union. [19074]

The question of which countries meet the Maastricht criteria will be decided by the Council on recommendations from the Commission.
