§ Mrs. ClwydTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Provan (Mr. Wray), of 24 April,Official Report, column 394, what defence equipment whose sale to Nigeria was agreed before June 1993 was delivered after that time. [23256]
§ Mr. FreemanIt is our general policy not to reveal details of individual exports of defence equipment. However, the 1994 UK return to the UN register of conventional arms, now in the House of Commons Library, provides information on transfers of defence equipment within seven broad categories.
§ Mrs. ClwydTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence on which date he approved exports of Hawk 200 series aircraft to Indonesia. [23249]
§ Mr. FreemanThe approval of export licences is a matter for my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade. It is not the practice to give details of approvals or denials of specific export licence applications, but I can assure the hon. Member that such export licence applications would be considered against the background of an assurance from the Indonesian authorities that Hawk aircraft will not be used against the civilian population or for repressive purposes.
