To ask the Secretary of State for Health which of the advisory non-departmental public bodies sponsored by her Department are under a statutory requirement to(a) publish their advice to the Government, (b) publish an annual report and (c) lay an annual report before Parliament; and if she will list those bodies with a statutory basis. [holding answer 27 April 1995]: The following Department of Health advisory non-departmental public bodies have a statutory requirement to:

Publish their advice to the Government:

  • The Committee on Dental and Surgical Materials.
  • The Standing Dental Advisory Committee

Publish an annual report:

  • The British Pharmacopoeia Commission.
  • The Committee on the Safety of Medicines.
  • The Health Advisory Service
  • The Joint Planning Advisory Committee.
  • The Medicines Commission.

Lay an annual report before Parliament:

  • The British Pharmacopoeia Commission.
  • The Medicines Commission.

The following Department of Health advisory non-departmental public bodies have a statutory basis:

  • The Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee.
  • The British Pharmacopoeia Commission.
  • The Clinical Standards Advisory Group.
  • The Committee on Dental and Surgical Materials.
  • The Committee on the Safety of Medicines.
  • The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.
  • The Medicines Commission.
  • The Standing Dental Advisory Committee.
  • The Standing Medical Advisory Committee.
  • The Standing Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee.
  • The Standing Pharmaceutical Advisory Committee.
  • The Unrelated Live Transplant Regulatory Authority.
