§ Mr. David DavisWe strongly support the eastward enlargement of the European Union to those associated countries of central Europe which wish to join, including Poland. To help them prepare for membership, the EU agreed a strategy at the Essen European Council in December 1994 which we welcomed. The United Kingdom is working to ensure the strategy's effective implementation.
