To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is the current success rate of applicants for special assistance for those suffering from chronic bronchitis and emphysema. [20135]

Of the 42,770 claims for industrial injuries disablement benefit in respect of chronic bronchitis and emphysema processed by 28 February, 4,792 have resulted in awards of benefit, representing a success rate of 11.2 per cent. This is a similar success rate to claims for other prescribed diseases.
