To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what action British Rail is taking to stop Computer Associates terminating its software licences before privatisation; what damages and costs are being sought; if a counter-claim has been made against British Rail; and if he will make a statement. This is a matter for the British Railways Board.

Mr. Byers

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimate has been made of the costs incurred by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency as a result of Computer Associates' court action limiting access to software.

Mr. Norris

The cost of migrating from CA to substitute products was borne by EDS, the Department's IT supplier.
