§ Mr. SoamesBefore the recently announced programme of redundancies arising from the Defence costs study, the ratio of Army other ranks to field officers was approximately 14:1; in future it will be approximately 17:1. It has been possible to achieve these reductions without the need for a large redundancy programme, and no further Army redundancies beyond those already announced are anticipated in the foreseeable future.
