To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his estimate of the number of members of Her Majesty's armed services who have died on active service since 1965. [14642]

In the period from 1966 to 1994, 850 members of the armed forces have died on active service as a result of hostile and enemy action or as a result of terrorist activity in Northern Ireland.
