§ Mrs. ClwydTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what action he intends to take to discourage airlines from overbooking passengers on flights; [16505]
(2) if he will discuss with British Airways its practice of overbooking passengers on flights. [16506]
§ Mr. NorrisIt is for each airline, including British Airways, to determine its own policy on booking, according to its commercial judgment. A Council regulation provides for compulsory minimum levels of compensation to be paid to passengers with a valid ticket and a confirmed reservation on a scheduled flight departing from a Community airport who are denied boarding because the flight is overbooked.
