HC Deb 28 March 1995 vol 257 c534W
Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what action he intends to take to discourage airlines from overbooking passengers on flights; [16505]

(2) if he will discuss with British Airways its practice of overbooking passengers on flights. [16506]

Mr. Norris

It is for each airline, including British Airways, to determine its own policy on booking, according to its commercial judgment. A Council regulation provides for compulsory minimum levels of compensation to be paid to passengers with a valid ticket and a confirmed reservation on a scheduled flight departing from a Community airport who are denied boarding because the flight is overbooked.
