HC Deb 22 March 1995 vol 257 c221W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what has been the total cost to date and what is the current cost per month, of his Departments and the Highways Agencys use of private security guards; and if he will give a breakdown of those costs per road scheme or project.

Mr. Watts

This is an operational matter for the Highways Agency. I have asked the chief executive to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Mr. Harry Cohen, dated 22 March 1995: As you know, the Minister for Railways and Roads, Mr John Watts has asked me to reply to your Parliamentary Question asking the Secretary of State for Transport, what has been the total cost to date, and what is the current cost per month, of his Departments and the Highways Agencys use of private security guards; and if he will give a breakdown of those costs per road scheme or project. The following table gives the information; the figures have been rounded. The ongoing spend is, of course, dependent on the level of future protest action.

I hope this is helpful.
